SECONDARY NEWS
Well,
we are almost there, only two weeks
remaining and then the long end of Year break will be upon us. Today the last
Cambridge examinations took place
as well as the final examinations in our own internal assessment week. Many
thanks to staff for their tireless efforts invigilating and marking
but a big thanks to Mr. Chris Sparks for his
co-ordination of the whole affair. Next week sees our Year 10 students off to
experience a week in the “World of Work”. Don’t be surprised to see them
taking your meal order, trying to
fix your car or even taking your teeth out. Once again
Thank you to all of our partner employers for making this week
possible. Also next week our Year Eight students will be off to Bridge Camp
for a three night trip, when
amongst other activities they will be canoeing. During the last week of term
we will be having a cross-curricular day where students will be focusing on
the theme of “The Future”. If you are free please pop in and see what is
happening. In addition to this we will be having our Annual Speech Day and
Prize giving ceremony on the last day of term. I am pleased to announce that
Samuel Matete,
without doubt
Zambia’s finest ever
athlete to date, will be our Guest
of Honour. Sadly at the end of this term we will be saying farewell to a
number of staff members. As you will already have read,
Mr Muntzer has already left. Also leaving will be
Mr. Mohamed Ali, Mrs Wendy
Hewit,
Ms Kath Law, Ms Julie Dale and Mr.
Chris Sparks. I wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. As
this is the last newsletter of the Academic year I hope you all have a
pleasant break from school and I look forward to seeing you all return,
refreshed, on the 22nd
August. Best wishes
Jon Turner Assistant Head of Secondary

ISAZ INTER-SCHOOLS SECONDARY ATHLETICS
This
event was hosted by Baobab on 9th
June. The occasion
witnessed the largest turn-out ever for these championships with a total of
ten schools and close to 400 athletes in attendance. Baobab athletes gave a
very good account of themselves and finished a very
creditable second behind Lwengu. An indication of
the keenness of the competition was the fact that a total of 33 new records
were established, eight by Baobab
students. Top performances by Baobab Students included: Michael
Hacking; he became the first Baobab student ever to
go over the 6m barrier in the Long Jump,
he then followed this with 12.61m in the Triple Jump,
both new ISAZ records. Sean Wilson; he won the Shot Putt,
Discus and Javelin with new ISAZ records in the first two events.
Natassja Chelemu; she
won the 800m for the fourth year “running” and the 400m,
setting ISAZ records in both events.
