TIM MIDDLETON is the new Principal of Baobab College, having taken up office in August 2007. He brings to the post considerable and relevant experience both in the educational world and in the extra-curricular world, which ideally equip him for taking Baobab College forward in the next stage of its development More specifically he has extensive experience of Independent, co-educational schools throughout southern Africa (as well as in the UK), as well as boarding and new schools. He was the founding Headmaster of a similar school in Zimbabwe for ten years, taking it from the dust to a highly respected, well sought-after Independent School. As a mark of the respect gained he was appointed the Chairman of the 60-strong Heads of Independent Schools association in Zimbabwe (CHISZ). Africa Furthermore, he knows what it is like to be a boarder, having attended boarding schools himself for ten years. He gained an M.A. Hons. in English at St Andrews University and a Cert. Ed at Edinburgh University.
In the sporting world TIM MIDDLETON has participated and competed in many sporting fields in many countries from a very young age. He represented his school at first team level in soccer, rugby, cricket, hockey, athletics, (including tours to Jamaica and Holland several times) while he was also a keen golfer, squash player, tennis player and long-distance runner. At university he specialised in hockey and accumulated various honours on the way (Scottish Universities, Scotland Under 21), ultimately representing his country (Scotland) at full international level thirty-five times before ‘retiring’ early at the age of 25 in order to pursue his teaching career in Zimbabwe. He has continued to play, coach and umpire hockey (Scotland International Over 40s Hockey player) while continuing to run (First local home, Loch Rannoch Marathon) and play golf. He also demonstrated leadership qualities in the sporting world by captaining at various times St Andrews University Hockey club, Scottish Universities Hockey team, Grange Hockey club (Edinburgh) and by serving as Headmaster i/c Zimbabwe Schoolboys Hockey.
In addition to the above he is a noted public speaker and a writer (of sporting, educational and spiritual matters).
