COLLEGE
– News and Information Issue 9 2006/7 January 12th
SECONDARY NEWS
I
would like to begin by wishing you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
It is great to see all our students return safely and refreshed at the start
of a new term. As always this term promises to be just as busy and hectic as
ever. This is particularly true for all of our examination students who are
currently writing their “mock” examinations. I wish them all the best in this
period and look forward to seeing the results over the coming weeks. I would
also like to extend a very warm welcome to the numerous new students who have
joined us. I am sure that your time with us will be exciting and enjoyable.

PRIMARY NEWS
Welcome back after the long break and a very Happy New Year to all our
students, parents and staff. It has
been a good first week back at school and already the children are settled
into the new term. I would like to thank parents for bringing their children
back to school on time and for keeping to the school calendar. I would like to
welcome all our new children to Baobab. There have been a number of new
children starting at Baobab particularly in our Early Learning Centre. We hope
you will all attend the new parents’ Get Together hosted by the P.T.A. This
term we will be having a dedicated Science week in addition to the Science
taught in class. Children in Key Stage Two should have received project
guidelines. If you do not have one of these please contact Mrs.Sportel. There
is an error on the blue calendar. The Annual Book Week is taking place next
term due to there being too many ISAZ events taking place this term. This term
we will be hosting the Annual Primary Arts Festival on Saturday 17th
March where we
anticipate that twenty five ISAZ school will participate in Performing Arts
and Visual Arts. Please keep this date free.
Thank you!!
Thank you very much to Mr. and Mrs. Gunter who have kindly donated a fan to
Year Five Hibiscus. The children and Mrs. Lwenje are extremely grateful. There
is a car boot sale this term and no doubt some of you will be having a good
spring clean. If you have anything you feel could be donated to the school
that is in good condition then we would be delighted to receive donations of
toys, books etc. that your child
may have grown out of.

FROM THE POOL
As
mentioned in the previous Bark, The
Zambia National Swimming Team went to
Zimbabwe for 7 days to
participate in a training camp and Sub- Saharan Swimming Championship. Out of
9 countries,
Zambia managed to come
second. Although the competition was very stiff,
with many swimmers who had previously been to World Cup events,
Commonwealth Games, Olympics and
other high profile competitions,
the Zambian swimmers performed extremely well. Times were improved immensely
and medals were won. The Baobab Barracuda swimmers were amongst the medalists
and finalists. We should be very proud of them. If you happen to come across
Lesley, Carla,
Fraukje, Mark,
Alan, Ayla,
Chola, Mizi,
Tanni, Tilka and Jasmine make sure
to congratulate them. I will keep you all posted with more detailed
information as soon as possible. Hope to see many of you at the pool next
week. Tonia Weltin National Coach,

HEAD LICE CHECKS
Mrs
Bowden will be carrying out routine head lice checks,
next week, beginning Monday 15th.
To avoid any embarrassment to your child please check his/her hair thoroughly
to ensure that he/she is free of these unwelcome guests. You will be advised
of any infestation.

NEWS
There
will be an informal meet-and-greet evening for all new and existing parents at
the New Hall on Friday January 19. This is a great opportunity for all new
parents to get to know other parents,
as well as Class Mums, and for our
“old” parents to catch up with each other and maybe make some new friends. The
function starts at 17h30, and
cheese, wine and a cash bar will be
available. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
